NEET UG 2027 is set to move from pen and paper to a computer-based test (CBT). Candidates will read the questions on a computer screen and choose answers with the mouse instead of filling an OMR sheet. The exam date, registration schedule and the final 2027 pattern will come in the NTA information bulletin, and this page will be updated when it is released.
What Changes in a CBT
- Questions on screen: each question and its four options appear on the screen, one at a time.
- Question palette: a panel shows which questions are answered, not answered, not visited or marked for review, and you can jump to any question.
- Timer on screen: the time left is always visible, and the test is submitted when the time ends.
- Answer changes: you can change or clear an answer at any time before submitting, with no rubbing out on paper.
- Shifts: reports say a computer-based NEET may be held in more than one shift with normalised scores; this is not confirmed until NTA publishes the bulletin.
Current NEET UG Pattern (2026)
- Questions: 180, all compulsory (Physics 45, Chemistry 45, Botany 45, Zoology 45)
- Marks: 720 in total, +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one
- Time: 3 hours (180 minutes)
- Mode in 2026: pen and paper on an OMR sheet
Until NTA announces otherwise, plan your preparation on this pattern. The syllabus is set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and has not been announced to change with the mode.
How to Prepare for a Computer-Based NEET
- Practise full-length tests on screen: 180 questions in 3 hours, so you get used to reading and solving on a monitor for that long.
- Use the palette and mark-for-review feature in mock tests, so moving between questions becomes quick.
- Practise time per subject: Biology carries 90 questions, so keep enough time for Physics numericals.
- Revise NCERT carefully: most Biology and many Chemistry questions follow NCERT lines.
