The Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Maintenance Department (TNMVMD), Chennai has released a notification to engage apprentices for the year 2026-27 under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Act 1973. There are 79 training places in total: 18 for Graduate Apprentices and 61 for Diploma (Technician) Apprentices, both in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering. Only candidates from Tamil Nadu who passed in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 can apply. The last date to apply online is 29.10.2026.

The training period is one year. The department can increase or decrease the number of vacancies.
Eligibility
- Graduate Apprentice: A regular full-time Degree in Engineering or Technology (B.E / B.Tech) from a statutory university or recognised institution in the relevant discipline.
- Diploma Apprentice: A regular full-time Diploma in Engineering or Technology from a State Board of Technical Education or a university in the relevant discipline.
- Age: As per the Apprenticeship Rules.
- Candidates who have already done an apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship Act, or have one year or more of experience, are not eligible.
- Reservation: SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates must submit the certificate in the Government standard format, otherwise they will be treated as General category.
Application Fee
The notification does not mention any application fee.
Selection Process
- Shortlisting is based on the percentage of marks in the basic qualification.
- Shortlisted candidates will be informed through their registered email ID.
- Shortlisted candidates must attend certificate verification at TNMVMD, Chennai.
- No TA/DA will be paid for attending certificate verification.
How to Apply
- Go to the National Portal (nats.education.gov.in) and register as a new student to get a 12-digit enrolment number. Existing users can log in with their details.
- After login, under "Apply against advertised vacancies", search "TAMIL NADU MOTOR VEHICLES MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT" and click Apply.
- Upload the provisional degree or diploma certificate, or the consolidated mark sheet.
- Enter the percentage of marks in the "% of marks / CGPAx10" column; candidature will not be considered without it.
- Incomplete or erroneous applications received after the due date will be rejected.

Other Conditions
- No boarding or lodging expenses are payable.
- The department has no obligation to offer employment after the apprenticeship ends.
- Candidates should beware of touts; the Board has not authorised any agency.
