PGIMER Recruitment 2026: 162 Senior Resident and Other Posts

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh has released Advertisement No. PGI/RC/056/2026/2690 dated 16 October 2026 inviting online applications from Indian nationals for 162 tenure posts of a maximum of 3 years: Senior Residents, Senior Medical Officers and Junior/Senior Demonstrators at PGIMER Chandigarh and the PGI Satellite Centre, Sangrur (Punjab). Online registration runs from 16 October to 13 November 2026, and the computer based test is on 5 December 2026.

Vacancy Details

At PGIMER Chandigarh the Senior Resident posts are the largest in Anaesthesia (16), General Surgery (15), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (13), Internal Medicine (10) and Hospital Administration (9). Sixteen of the posts are earmarked for persons with benchmark disabilities. The vacancies are provisional and may change.

Eligibility

• Age limit: up to 45 years, with relaxation as per the rules.
• Senior Resident: an MBBS degree recognised by the NMC/MCI, registration with the Central or State Medical Council, and an MD/MS degree in the concerned specialty (the Dentistry posts need an MDS). Senior Medical Officer: MD/MS (Medicine or Surgery).
• Demonstrators: the qualification for each department is given in the detailed guidelines, for example an MS in Anatomy or Surgery for the medical Senior Demonstrator, and an MA/M.Sc. with a Ph.D. for several non-medical posts.
• Pay: Level 11 with a minimum of Rs. 67,700 plus NPA for Senior Resident, Senior Medical Officer and the medical Senior Demonstrator; Level 10 (Rs. 56,100 minimum) for the non-medical Senior Demonstrator; Level 6 (Rs. 35,400 minimum) for the Junior Demonstrator.

Application Fee

• General, OBC and EWS: Rs. 1,500 plus transaction charges.
• SC and ST: Rs. 800 plus transaction charges.
• Persons with benchmark disabilities: no fee.
• Pay online by debit card, credit card or net banking (the notice advises avoiding UPI).

Selection Process

The selection has a total of 100 marks: a Computer Based Test of 75 marks and a Departmental Interview and Assessment of 25 marks. The CBT has 50 questions of 1.5 marks each in 50 minutes, with a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. It is held in four cities: Chandigarh (Tricity), Delhi/NCR, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Candidates are shortlisted in the ratio 1:3 per advertised post, and only the eligible shortlisted candidates are called for the document verification and the interview.
