Information Commissioner Recruitment 2026 - Apply Offline

DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training) has invited applications for the post of Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission (CIC), New Delhi. The CIC is constituted under the Right to Information Act, 2005, and not more than two Information Commissioners may be appointed. Eligible and interested persons can send their particulars in the prescribed proforma by post or e-mail. The particulars must reach by 20 November 2026, 5:00 PM.

Eligibility

• Eminence: The candidate must be a person of eminence in public life with wide knowledge and experience in law, science and technology, social service, management, journalism, mass-media, or administration and governance.
• Must not be a Member of Parliament or a member of the Legislature of any State or Union Territory.
• Must not hold any other office of profit, must not be connected with any political party, and must not carry on any business or pursue any profession. Cessation of these before appointment is a condition precedent.
• Age limit: Persons who have attained the age of 65 years are not eligible.

Salary and Service Conditions

Salary, allowances and other terms and conditions of service will be as per the Right to Information (Term of Office, Salaries, Allowances and Other Terms and Conditions of Service of Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission, State Chief Information Commissioner and State Information Commissioners in the State Information Commission) Rules, 2019.
