UPESSC Principal Headmaster Recruitment 2026 - 2647 Posts

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, has invited online applications for 2,647 posts of Principal and Headmaster in the aided non-government secondary schools of the Secondary Education Department, Uttar Pradesh. Advertisement No. 08/2026 is for 1,475 Principal posts (1,318 in boys' schools and 157 in girls' schools), and Advertisement No. 09/2026 is for 1,172 Headmaster posts (1,037 in boys' schools and 135 in girls' schools). Applications open on 23 October 2026, the last date to pay the fee is 22 November 2026, and the written examination is on 7 January 2027.

Vacancy Details

• All the posts are unreserved. The posts identified for candidates with benchmark disabilities are shown in the vacancy table of the advertisement.
• The number of vacancies can go up or down. The schools are listed school-wise in the advertisement.
• Pay: Principal is at Level-12 (Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200). Headmaster is at Level-10 (Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500).

Eligibility

• Age: At least 30 years and at most 62 years as on 1 July 2026. An application without a date of birth, or from a candidate older than 62 years on 1 July 2026, is not accepted.
• Education: A postgraduate degree from a recognised university with at least 50% marks, and a B.Ed. degree from an NCTE-recognised course. For Headmaster, a B.P.Ed. is also accepted in place of B.Ed.
• Experience: At least 4 years of teaching as a Lecturer or Assistant Teacher in Classes 9 to 12, or at least 4 years as a Headmaster of a high school (for Principal) or a junior high school (for Headmaster). The experience certificate must be issued by the competent authority.
• Male candidates cannot apply for the posts in girls' schools.

Application Fee

• The fee is paid online by debit card, credit card or net banking, is the same for every category including divyang candidates, and is not refunded or adjusted against any other application.

Selection Process

• The selection is on a merit list prepared from 400 marks: a written examination of 360 marks (120 objective questions) and an interview of 40 marks.
• The written examination is held on 7 January 2027 at the centres decided by the Commission, mostly district headquarters. The admit card is available on the Commission website a few days before the examination.
• If the marks are equal, the marks of the written examination are seen first, and then the interview marks.

How to Apply

• Apply only online through the UPESSC website. Every candidate must first complete the One Time Registration (OTR), and an application sent by any other means is not accepted.
• Fill in the registration and the application in English, upload a passport size photograph and signature (JPG, 10 to 100 kB each) and the certificates (PDF, 20 to 200 kB each), and pay the fee.
• After the final submission the category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed, so fill in everything with care. Corrections are possible only until 25 November 2026, and only the last submitted application for a post is counted.
• Keep three printouts of the application. Two copies, along with the documents, are submitted at the Commission office at the time of the interview.
